The SquidBee case: the bee tentacles
Ángela Aldea - June 20, 2008

Important: Libelium has launched a new sensor device: Waspmote. It is ready for research and market applications. You can discover the differences between both platforms in the document: Waspmote vs SquidBee.

Most of the aplications of Squidbee are developed in outdoor enviroments. This represents  a problem for the security of the pcb. Water, humidity and particles of dust are hard enemies of electronic devices.
So the solution comes from the squid: the modular design of nature applied to our product.
Now the product has a main body which protects the pcb and the probes go out trough a cable gland. The pcb is isolated from outside.

Wires are protected with a tire cover and in the end of the wires are the sensors.

The evolution of this part consist in replacing the cable gland for an IP connector. This change gives  a lot of advantages to the manufacture:
we can assembly first the wires to the pcb and to the panel part of the connector. Then we can close the enclosure and assure that no water or dust will enter in the box.
The next step will be  assemble the connector to the wires and the sensors, so we can add as much sensors as we want to satisfy customers needings without opening the box. Even this process could be done by the user.

This means to Libelium a faster production of Squidbee  and the possibility of giving a personalization service to the customers, providing versatility to the product.
